Hydrangeas in Black Pitcher with Grapes

Oil on panel 42x52

This painting was commissioned by a woman who places an arrangement of Hydrangeas on her grand piano every fall. She wanted a painting to hang over her Steinway she could see as she played. Her flowers stay fresh year round.

It's not unusual for a patron to have specific ideas about a subject. By being able to include their experience of a subject I feel my art is enlarged. I am happy painting my experience, but a little outside experience keeps even this formal style fresh.
